Opportunities
WICCBD members are part of a very special community, a
group of people dedicated to improving the life of students identified as
having an emotional/behavioral disability/emotionally disturbed. As a result of
joining WICCBD, members meet others throughout the state and nationally who
share similar interests and concerns and often develop life-long professional
relationships. We encourage attendance to conferences at the state and the
national levels and promote interactions through socials and dinners. Some of
the most commonly attended conferences are:
-
Annual State WICCBD Conference in Madison, WI in November
-
Symposium for Leadership in Behavior Disorders in Kansas City, MO every
February
-
International Council for Children and Youth with Behavioral Disorders each
November at various locations around the nation
-
The Council for Exceptional Children National Conference each April at
different locations (2001-New York City, NY)
-
Wisconsin Teacher Professional Development Center -
Special Summer Institutes. The
Department of Special Education at UW Whitewater will be presenting
special interest speakers every summer in an effort to become the Wisconsin and
Illinois training center for teachers in any field. This year's Summer
Institute presented John Maag, Ph.D, a specialist in the area of behavior
disorders, discipline, and counseling from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The Institute focused on Managing Resistance: Looking Beyond the Child and into
the Mirror and was held August 7 -8, 2001. The summer institute for the
academic year 2001-2002 will focus on High Stakes Assessment for Children with
Disabilities. Please visit the department page for further information.
